Occurrence

Zebrano, a rarer wood species of West Africa, which is found especially in Cameroon and Gabon.

Trunk and bark

Zebrano tree grows to a height of approx. 45 m and can reach a diameter of 1 to 1.5 m. The trunk is up to 15 m knot-free and consistently well grown. The bark of Zebrano is thin, reddish-brown, cracked on young trees, coming off in round scales on older trees.

Characteristics and wood colour

The structure is coarse, often recurring in Zebrano. Heartwood colour is light to grey-brown, matt glossy, with dark brown, tangentially running stripes, about 1mm wide every 5 to 10cm, running through the zebrawood. Sapwood colour can be white to light grey and the sapwood in Zebrano is not usable, which is why it is shipped already de-splinted. Zebrawood is therefore very decorative.
