Large wood rays create lenticular to almond-shaped mirrors on the longitudinal surfaces, which stand out clearly from the finely needle-cracked and straight-grained to wavy basic texture. Characteristics and wood colour

The pores are medium sized. Remarkable are the extremely broad and high medullary rays, which appear in radial section as conspicuous mirrors, comparable to oak. Lenticular light stripes in radial section. Elfwood has a reddish brown ground colour, the sapwood is light brown, whereby the heartwood sometimes appears pinkish brown.
