Doussié/Afzelia is a type of wood that is mainly found in the tropical regions of West and East Africa. The wood has a light brown to reddish brown colouring with only faintly visible storage cell structures, the colour differences between early and late wood are hardly noticeable. It is also one of the most beautiful wood species and is very resistant.

Occurrence
Doussié is found in the rainforest from West Africa, Guinea to Angola and Uganda. Doussié is a widespread and valued tree in Africa and is one of the most beautiful wood species.
Trunk and bark
Doussié reaches a diameter of up to 1.2m and can grow up to 40m high (up to 15m knot-free).
Characteristics and wood colour
The pores (cross-section) are coarse and scattered. Storage cells as a light, eye-shaped field surrounding the pores and as a fine band marking the growth zones. Wood rays fine. Growth zones only faintly visible on cross-sections and fladers. Light brown to reddish brown colouring with only faintly visible storage cell structures and slight colour differences between early and late wood.
