Veneer Scots Pine 0.85 mm

A striking feature of the pine is the irregular course of the annual rings, which leads to unusual patterns in the wood. The colouring is reddish yellow and shows a pronounced contrast between the early and late wood in an expressive pattern. The darker, reddish-brown late wood creates distinctive veins on the tangential surfaces and strong stripes on the radial surfaces.

Occurrence

Widespread throughout Europe from Spain to the Arctic, especially in Northern and Eastern Europe as far as Siberia and Asia.

Trunk and bark

The pine tree can reach a height of up to 50 m, with a diameter of up to 1.0 m. The pine is very fast-growing. The bark of the pine is brown-red, smooth, thin-scaled and flaking. With increasing age, a deep fissured bark forms.

Characteristics and wood colour

The resin channels and annual rings are clearly visible. The wood of the pine is very rich in resin and darkens quickly. The brown-red heartwood of the pine contrasts strongly with the yellowish sapwood of the pine.
