Bouls Silver Fir steamed 70 mm
The wood image of the white fir spreads a friendly and light-flooded flair with its yellowish-white colour and an occasional slightly bluish shimmer. As with the spruce, the image is accentuated by the annual rings, which stand out clearly with their dark late wood.

Occurrence
Fir is widespread in the low mountain range of Europe, mainly restricted to Central and South-Eastern Europe, often associated with spruce.
Trunk and bark
Fir grows to a height of about 40m, the trunk is branchless up to half its length and reaches a diameter of up to 1.0m. The bark of the fir is smooth, whitish-grey in colour, with small, bump-like swellings. From the age of 40 to 60 years, the fir develops a scaly bark which is white to dark grey in colour. This scaly bark is coarsely cracked and shows clear transverse cracks.
Characteristics and wood colour
Fir is coarse-grained and straight-grained, the pattern is medium-fine and even. Fir is resin-free. The sapwood and the heartwood are not sharply separated, they are whitish with yellowish or reddish shimmer. The late wood is sharply defined.
