Description

The 1-layer boards or table tops with continuous slats are made from old oak log walls or oak beams. The solid wood boards with very wide slats up to 300 mm are best suited for table tops. However, the following work must be carried out: exact cutting, edge processing, surface finish (cleanly puttying, sanding, brushing, possibly hand-planing, oiling or varnishing). Choose your table top from our stock.

Quality front side: rustic, knotty, with cracks, open knots and cracks, not puttied, discolouration and colour differences possible, with a small amount of sapwood, with worm pattern, with patches or patches.
Quality reverse side: very rustic, with strong cracks and open knots, unkitted, partly not planed cleanly (differences in height), with sapwood, heavily worm-eaten

Storage

The solid wood panels may only be stored in closed, dry and not too cold rooms. The boards must not be stored near heaters, damp walls, open doors or windows and must be protected from direct sunlight. The ideal storage temperature is approx. 20 °C at a relative humidity of 45 to 55 % without large temperature fluctuations. The solid wood panels need a longer time to adjust after a large temperature change. The boards should always be stored lying down.

Transport

If possible, the boards should be transported lying down. When securing the load, always fasten the tensioning straps in line with the squared lumber so that no deformation or breakage of the boards occurs when lashing the straps.

The boards should not be left on the loading bridge of the truck overnight or over the weekend, especially in case of strong temperature fluctuations or in the winter months.

Processing

The moisture content of the boards must be measured before and after processing. The ideal wood moisture content is 8% ± 2%. The room climate in the workshop should have an air temperature of approx. 20° and a relative humidity of 35 to 55% during processing.

We recommend that you process the solid wood panels promptly in one go, i.e. ripping, routing, sleeping and lacquering. This reduces the risk of warping, as the boards can practically not absorb any moisture. The boards must be lacquered over their entire surface, even on the face side, to prevent moisture from penetrating.

Wood suffers especially during the heating period if the room climate is unhealthily too dry. Please always check your room climate and humidify if necessary.

If you do not follow these instructions, open glue joints or even warping or cracking of the wood may occur. The processing and storage instructions must be observed especially for beech wood. This hardwood reacts very strongly to changes in humidity.
